Jim’s Bilateral Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Engh 2007
Jim’s Bilateral Hip Resuracing with Dr. Engh 2007
I am four days post-op on my second BHR. My first was done on 12/18/07. Both surgeries were performed by Dr. Andy Engh and the very capable teams at Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic and the Inova Joint Replacement Center at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. While this procedure is not easy or painless and a certain level of commitment is necessary on the part of the patient, the opportunity to regain the ability to walk and participate in normal activities, with no pain is truly a gift. I still have a ways to go, but the prospect of trading the pain and inactivity I have experienced over the last several years (probably more like five to … Read the rest

Sandy’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Engh 2010
On April 1st my left hip received the BHR from Dr. Andy Engh in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Engh had mentioned your website as a source of information for me during my Pre-Op visit. I have enjoyed reading about the experiences of others and it has helped me to understand the challenges associated with Hip Resurfacing options. Now two weeks into Post-Op I am feeling better each day. The swelling in my left leg is reduced, the bruise on my left leg has almost disappreared and I am now on one crutch. I stopped the vicodin after one week and I am pleased with Tylenol. My discomfort is minimal and I am able to sleep through the night. Formal … Read the rest

Neil Richardson Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Engh 2008
I am a 44 year old former college/professional player. I began playing in the street at age 7 in my neighborhood outside of Washington DC, and kept at it until joining an apprenticeship program for the North American Soccer League in 1982. The NASL began to have financial problems and teams began to fold in the early 80s, in two years the league went from 28 teams to 12, and I opted to continue my playing on scholarship at the University of South Florida. After college, I played in a series of start-up pro leagues like the American Soccer League and the A League…I found myself gravitating back to “amateur” teams as the money was … Read the rest
Pete Hollinger’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Engh 2008
I had the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure performed on my right hip by C. Anderson Engh, Jr., M.D. on June 3, 2008 at Mt. Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. On August 1, 2009, 14 months after my surgery, I performed a 507 pound deadlift at the NASA (Natural Athletes Strength Association) World Cup Power Sports Championship in Oklahoma City. This lift was a NASA Power Sports world record in the 60+ age group of the 198 pound weight division.

I had a left BHR on November 11, 2010 with Dr. Andy Engh. I was 48 (almost 49) years old at the time. I am a small boned female and I was bone on bone arthritis with AVN and several cysts, including one large one.
I just had my one year post-op appointment with my surgeon. The x-rays (taken from several different angles) looked fantastic! Everything looks good…I go back in a year and then if things still look good, I go back in 5 years. He wrote a prescription for a metallosis test to get baseline numbers but just to serve as a baseline for the future…no problems that he could see.
I have had no pain (except … Read the rest
