Hi all . thanks for the diverse advice , i have my peace of mind back . I have a queery . When can i take a long haul flight ? thanks Paul
I would ask your doctor first, but many patients have flown on long trips post-op.
You are taking more of a risk of getting a blood clot by doing so because of your limited activity, personally I would do it and would do foot pumps every 20 minutes or so.

I flew home from India 11 days post-op. 39 hours either in airports or airplanes. Survived it but certainly don't recommend it!!!! A lot of leg swelling even with TED hose and getting up and walking around often. An embolism is nothing to take chances with. Local guy had knee surgery, went home six blocks away, threw a clot and died.
Everyone is going to be different but I don't think you should risk it until you can sit up and/or drive for the same hours without leg swelling.
