I have had De Puy ASR fitted 4th September 2009.
I had the choice of various devices and my consultant said he had no preference as to which one we should use. The hospital used De Puy ASR, so I decided to have the De Puy.

I just got my biomet cementless right hip resurfaced yesterday. It feels great, I've been up walking with two crutches and stair climbing. Stiff but very little pain. They say tomorrow is the worse pain though.

BIOMET Cementless - 1 year anniversary and loving every minute of it!
Just hit two years -- 12/18 -- on my first BHR and will hit two years on the second on 4/4/10. Couldn't be happier. I remain extremely grateful to my orthopaedist, Dr. Andy Engh, and the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic in Northern Virginia, as well as Joint Replacement Center at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

Pat, I received an uncemented Biomet resurfacing device on June 23, 2010. My surgeon is Dr. Gross. At 10 days post surgery, I think I am quite well and almost painfree. I just feel wonderful.
LOL!! I can see by the poll that I'm "OLD!" - when I had MY resurf, BHRs weren't even being done in the US...LOL!!
Hi,
I am a newbie - got a Right Conserve+ 17 days ago from Dr. deSmet of Belgium. We got home to Canada 6 days ago and today I had my first exercise session in our local pool. The therapists were blown away by how mobile I was. They have very little experience with resurfacing, and see people with THR, 6 weeks post-op, who have lots of rehab to go. I would highly recommend Dr. de Smet for his surgical skill and his progressive rehab program. He has a great staff as well.
Hey, guys, so metal on metallyc or ceramic on plastic...........
Juan
Hi Juan,
I was of the understanding that most, if not all, HR's are metal on metal. I was told by my Dr who did the proceedure, that because the femoral component needs to be thin to "cap" the head (unlike the solid femoral ball in a THR), ceramic would be too fragile, and therefore it must be made of metal. Not sure about the acetabular cup... is that sometimes nonmetal? Again, my Dr explained that because the ball is bigger than in some THR, the acet. cup in HR needs to be press fit (no screws, as in THR) because there would be no room for screws (with screws they must then line the cup-reducing room for a large head- or the screws would cause friction). I believe that press fit cups need to be metal, so the bone can intergrate into them.
Am I misinformed? Please set me straight if I am. Thanks, Lu

Finsbury adept (original BHR anufacturer)
Coming from London, I understand that a device named
Finsbury sounds more attractive than
Birmingham!
I didn't get a choice, I liked the c+ but my surgeon is old-school McMinn and the finsbury is closest to the original spec, he knows the engineers and likes the instruments as well. He's pretty sceptical about cementless caps.
How's yours doing? I did 100 bodyweight squats to 90* with the swiss ball last night followed by bike and eliptical for an hour; legs are buggered today but the hip feels fine.
Cormet in left hip 23rd September 2010
I received a BHR.

Hello All,
Received a RBHR-4/5/2011( 9 days ago ). Procedure went very well. Feeling better each day PO with PT. Trying to ween myself off the Percocets(2 in AM to get started....Maybe 1 or 2 more during the day as needed). Doing 4-5 sets of PT prescription a day. Seems to be going well . On 2 crutches for 4 days; then 1 crutch for 5 days then onto just a cane today(thanks Dad). Getting up is getting easier and easier-as well as getting seated.
Hope everyone is doing well...
LBHR, 3/2/11, Boulder, CO, Community Hospital, Dr. James Rector. After about 5 years of increasing pain, I'm feeling as though my "old" self is returning. I'll feel complete once I can get back on the road bike and can tackle a mountain or 2.
I have the Adept from Finsbury.
Glenn
Comet on both. Feels great, and on the downslope on both, one at 4.5 months, the other at 7.5 months. Dr. Snyder did a good job on both.
Bilat BHRs, one months apart.
I'll be taking my first plane trip since the surgery on Friday. Looking forward to the TSA massage.
I'm and other x2 with the BMHR: Birmingham Mid Head Resection installed a month ago yesterday.

Dr. Schmitt (Dr. Detroit) is awesome.
After spending a year on here and researching else where I picked the best surgeon I could get and the device with the longest and best track record the BHR.

LBHR Sept 2008, Dr. Robert Gilbert
RBHR May 2012, Dr. Chris Cox
Delighted with results!!!
Excellent, Happy - how far along are you on the second?
Is there perhaps a page describing the different devices? I've been told that I will receive a similar device to the BHR, but it is less expensive.

Pat has put together a list of the most common devices. What is the name of yours?
Rosey
There are only 3 hip resurfacing devices FDA approved being used in the US. BHR, Cormet and Wright Conserve Plus. Dr. Gross uses the Biomet which has both components FDA approved, but not approved as a device. It is used "off label" for insurance coverage since both components have been approved separately.
I would always ask the surgeon just what I was getting and what size. They should give you a card telling that after your surgery.
Pat
Surgery date 09 July 2013

Femoral Component 42mm

Synovo Preserve (Dr. Pritchett)
I had the Synovo Preserve with Dr. Pritchett in Seattle. Uncemented ceramicised titanium and cross-linked polyethylene. It seemed the best choice for me. I'm allergic to nickel, which is present in the metal implants. I'm only 8 days out and am walking with crutches but more as support. I'm permitted to bear weight on the hip within reason. I have little pain or swelling left, still taking tylenol and advil 3 times a day.
Had my right hip done early Dec. Was expecting it to be BHR but received an Adept system, made in the UK.
