I stopped my Muay Thai training about 2 year ago and my Jiu jitsu training about 1.5years ago because of the arthritic pain in my hip. I am considering getting BHR’ed .
My question is how long did it take for you to get back to competition level condition, and actually compete? BJJ or any other wresting style.
Also how long did it take for you to be able to kick with no pain, or flexibility restrictions. Out of all the activities I had to stop, I miss Jiu Jitsu the most.
Your input is appreciated.
Hi Newturn,
I had my LBHR on the 23/01/09, I have been involved in boxing and MMA for a long period of my life. I am back in training and feel I could push it a lot more if I wanted but I am so happy with the results of the BHR, so I have decided to take things at a slower pace and believe me this is tough for me.
This is where I am in training at my steady level, I do my daily stretching and strengh work for 30-45 minutes.
In the dojo, I am not jumping around like mad but I move with ease, bobbing and slipping are good and because my mechanics are the best they have been for years I am starting to really bang.
I am not being taken to the floor from stand up but I am doing plenty of ground work from a ground position, shrimping is good and using my legs to about 80% on the floor, I am still a little cautious.
Kicking...I'm not a massive kicker but for the purpose of a benchmark I can axe kick to shoulder height and speed with both legs is as good as before...well nearly.
To sum up you should easily be able to get back to jj if that is what you want, lots do and are doing fine but you will have to progress with a steady pace and listen to your body mate.
I hope I have helped.
Regards
Terry
I had my hip resurfaced June 6, 2009 and I am slowly getting back on the mat demonstrating wrestling moves. My flexiblity isn't completely there yet but much better then before surgery. It just feels great being on the mat and rolling again.
