Well I leave for Boulder tomorrow for surgery with Dr. Rector on Wed., Aug. 26th. I thought I would be nervous but I'm still excited. I am just really looking forward to walking without pain. I imagine the nervousness will set in eventually but so far I'm still looking forward to it.
I'll write again next time I get a chance.

Hi Judy
I hope everything goes very well for you. Obviously you are putting yourself in other people's hands for the operation and immediate aftermath but after that you will be the major player in your own recovery. As has been said on here many times the key word is patience. As a double-hippy I can only say it was worth going through the ops.
Very best wishes
Ed
Hi Judy
Good Luck. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. We will look forward to hearing about your new hip when you get home.

Thanks for your support. One more question.
I have a bed that is higher than most. I have to get on my tippy toes and then set my rear on the bed and then swing my legs around to get into bed. Once I get into bed I am fine. Will this be a problem after surgery or are there any suggestions for aids I could use? Or will the Occupational Therapist work with me on this?
Thanks again
Judy
My bed is a very high bed, my problem was getting my operated leg up, but after a short time I figured out how to hook my good leg under my operated leg and boost it up.
Higher beds and higher vehicles is what I worried about too, but it was the low things like cars and toilets that got me because you may have trouble coming up from low areas. Being on your tip toes is no problem getting on a bed.... if it troubles you put a board on the floor and stand on it, but I doubt you'll have trouble with it.

Hi Judy -
Good luck on your surgery! Dr. Rector is awesome and Boulder Community Hospital is wonderful as well. Don't forget to say hi for me!
Just to let you know - it'll be 6 weeks post op for me on the day of your surgery. I am walking most of the time unaided. I take my cane for long walks - yes! long walks!!! - but I've been walking around home and work without it.
Write when you have a chance.

Tomorrow is surgery. Saw Dr. Rector today. Still feeling pretty positive. One thing I wasn't aware of was that the Fragmin injections would be so expensive. The cheapest I found was $200 and I heard that some people pay as much as $1050 for 10. Other than that everything seems to be falling into place quite nicely. Thanks for all the support.
Thanks
Judy
Good Luck!

Good luck.
Be sure to tell me all about it. My pre op is on Firday, and surgery is the following Friday.
