Title: Day 88: Climbed Amicalola Falls
Post by: GeorgiaHippie on November 01, 2009, 05:09:19 PM
One of my favorite pastimes before my hip pain became too unbearable, was to climb up Amicalola Falls, a steep mountain in North Georgia, USA. All throughout those difficult first few weeks after surgery, I kept dreaming of the day that I would once again be able to climb the 604 steps to the top of my favorite mountain.
Well, today was a beautiful, clear crisp day here in Georgia, so I could not resist the temptation to take the ride up there. I climbed up those 604 steps with gusto, and could not hold in a big grin as I made it to the top. All that effort of the surgery paid off! I had made it to the top!!

GeorgiaHip,
Congratulations! I have a similar dream, but it takes place on a steep stretch of road form Fort Collins to Estes Park, CO. Your story has inspired me.

Did you do anything in the recovery phase (stairmaster, elliptical, etc) to train for your climb?
Best Wishes,
Armondi

Armondi,

Glad to hear that you found my story inspirational!

I have been training regularly since my surgery, almost 3 months ago. I started with progressively longer walks for the first 6 weeks, and then for the next 6 weeks I alternated between intense sessions on the stationary bicycle and weightlifting (with extremely light weights).

I hope to hear soon about your climb to Estes Park!
