Hey its me again. I am healing, but slowly. My "groin" muscle isn't liking what im doing to it...Stretching! It is now 7 weeks, I still use a cane if I overdue the stretching, or working out. I am glad that I can now do 20 miles on my bicycle again! I did 20.5 miles Saturday, and 20.9 miles today, and at a respectable speed of 16.1 mph. My hip just gets very sore, and I'm using a heating pad. I have finally realized, I think (know), I am healing slower because of that other operation. Having your hip dislocated (heavily) in 8 months, can't be good!
I know of 2 ladies that had loose cups that had operations within months of their original hip resurfcing. They are healing at a very slow rate with a lot of pain. Loose cups are the result of surgeon error and it is terrible that someone has to go back thru surgery to get a cup placed properly. Having your body cut open in major surgery twice in several months is very difficult.
I have emails from doctors explaining that loose cups are surgeon error. Vicky also interviews a number of doctors at the Ortho meeting. I hope she will also write an article about it.
There have been 10 slipped cups in the last year or so on the Large Yahoo Discussion Group. It is a terrible situation to go thru surgery - have even worse pain than before - then go thru another surgery to have your slipped cups replaced.
THe best reason to try to use very experienced surgeons that know how to place acetabular cups when doing hip resurfacing.
