Hi Tina

Who was your surgeon and where do you live?

Normally you have some easy type of PT early on.  I had my hip resurfaced with Dr. De Smet in Belgium and I had to stay there 9 days after surgery.  Marc the PT worked with us about 1/2 hour a day. He massaged our thigh muscle, then we did some easy exercises and walked each day. Also did stairs each day.

By day 10 post op, I was home and was walking about 3/4 a mile a day with one crutch.  I still did a few of the exercises, but mostly napped a lot.

Dr. De Smet always told us to do what our bodies felt like doing.  If you want to walk - walk, but don't over due it.  Always do a little less than you think you can.

I was walking about 1 mile a day outside with one crutch at 2 weeks post op.  We could also do the stationary bike if we wanted to.

If you doctor did not tell you what to do, why don't you call their office and ask.  Some doctors do a lot of PT, while others don't do any.  It seems that most people end up in the same place eventually.

I would think you would like to be walking at this point.  You should do what you feel comfortable doing.

Let us know a little more about yourself.
