... just got a call from Dr. Su's office confirming that I appear to be a
candidate for hip resurfacing. I am going to meet with him next week.
Now, I am getting nervous and excited. I am tired of hip pain, of
limiting my acitivities, especially with my 19 month old son...
... But, now, I am limited in how much I can do. I used to be able to walk with the
dog several miles in the morning, then bike in the afternoon and not
think about it. Now I have to pick one, and some days I can't even do
that.
...I spoke to a friend of mine who is an orthopedist, but foot and ankle, and she says
to wait to have my hip replaced, the resurfacing has risks and cartilage research is hot. I say, I can't wait for something that may be reality in a year, or 2 or never. I want my life back!

Hip resurfacing is for younger active people and you sound like you need to be active with a 19 month old son. No one can tell you what they think you should do unless they have walked in your shoes - or maybe that should be walked with your hips.
I waited 10 years to long to get my hip resurfaced because I did not want a THR. Now that hip resurfacing is available with many wonderful experienced doctors it is an option for a new life. Cartilage research tells it all by looking at the words - it is research. It takes years for research to become reality. Geeze - it took 9 years for the FDA to approve the BHR here in the US while the rest of the world was using it quite often.
I have a handful of Dr. Su personal hip resurfacing stories http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php (http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php) on my website here
Good Luck and think about getting your hip resurfaced with Dr. Su and getting on with your life without pain.
