Title: How long til you could ride?
Post by: ohiotim on July 26, 2011, 11:23:13 AM
I rode motorcycles and quads since I was young. In 2002 I had to give it up because I just couldn't straddle my quad anymore.Has anybody else had this? If so how long after your resurface were you able to ride?Did it take alot  of pt to get your hips loose?

Hey Tim!
I ride horses religiously (see my posts under Horseback riders), on the back of my hubby's Harley, and my own quad in which I use like a tractor to do barn chores. I was given permission to ride my horses 3 months after my surgery. I can now mount and "straddle" (funny word!) the real horse or the iron horses just fine with NO discomfort!! It is wonderful. This is the only major sx I have ever had, so I can't say how much pt it took compaired to the average, but I will say I did a fair amount. Most of us do. My ROM is about the same as the hip nature gave me, and I am 13 months out. I just am thrilled with my HR. I think you would be able to ride your quad just fine, but every situation is different. Have you seen a HR experienced (key word!) Dr yet? Ask him/her what they think. Good Luck, Luann
