Title: Post Op Day 11
Post by: ScubaDuck on August 13, 2011, 01:00:01 PM
I posted a more detailed update on my blog at fullmetalhip.wordpress.com (http://fullmetalhip.wordpress.com).

The report is everything is going great.  The surgeon reiterated that the surgery was perfect.  We looked at the x-ray and the acetabular cup is at about 39 degree angle.  He said the bruising and pain that I have is normal.  And he said that it was only the piriformis muscle that was cut and reattached.

I can discontinue the aspirin that he prescribed to prevent clots.  I can get in a pool in the next few days after the holes where the sutures were close up.  And I can even use a stationary cycle as long as I don't break the 90 degree rule.  He also confirmed that the hip flexion restrictions will be removed at 6 weeks.

I celebrated all this good news by wandering with my girlfriend around Pike Place Market for 1.5 hours with two crutches.  I have been down to one crutch but I thought with the longer distance I should have the extra support.  I also figured it would be a bit of defense against the people that crowd the Market.

Thanks for all the support and information everyone has provided.  Onward and upward.

Dan

Thanks Ed and Gibbcuttert

Today I went to the track with my girlfriend and walked while she ran.  I am on one crutch and concentrating.  I was shooting for 1600 meters but made it 2400 meters in less than 36 min.

It felt great. I can recall not even being able to walk that long without severe pain prior to my surgery.  I just had some hip flexor pain which I had prior to surgery.

Dan, that is an incredible x-ray picture on your web-site. Your resurfacing comes complete with a zip.

Lop-

Doesn't everyone have a zipper?  I assumed that was for going to make any adjustments.  If not, what am I going to do with this neat torque wrench I bought?  Or maybe they installed the zipper in case I need that second hip done.

I have taken the liberty, Dan of posting your x-ray here, so that everyone can wonder at the marvel of modern surgical resurfacing advances.

Who knew? I only had glue and steri strips. Science moves on...  ;D

Great to see you're doing well, Dan.

@Lop - I didn't realize I was a guinea pig for this new procedure.  Glad I could share.

@Hernanu- thanks.  Hope you got a chuckle.

Is the zipper for easier/convience of access to the surgical site in case anything should go wrong? What if, after using it, the surgeon forgot to pull it back up? Would a passerby politely whispering "XYZ!" in his ear be appropriate?

Hey DanG- congrats on your milestones. Nice OR weather, too. Keep up the good healing. (and thanks to the other, Dan "the Lop" for posting that radiograph! Too funny.)
