Title: Bilateral, 11/15/11, Dr Marwin
Post by: Woodstock Hippy on August 31, 2011, 05:55:23 AM
I'm all set.  Both at once and then into the rehab, most likely at North Shore Hospital on Long Island, for a week and a half to two week total.  My last day of work is Sept 9. Then shoulder surgery on the 14th. Recover, and then on to the hips.  I can't wait to start running again in June.  My big motivator is that Dr Boetner said To me "at your age is no  gaurrantee that you will ever run again"  Well, nobody made me any promises over thirty years ago when I did my first run around Lake Coumo in Belmar NJ.  Right now I'm running once or twice a week in the woods near my house and with every slow and painfull stride I'm tell Dr Boetner that I will run and run well again!

Good Luck with your upcoming surgery.  Doing both at one time has the advantage of only having one recovery.  I am sure you will do well since you have a positive attitude. Keep us posted when you can.  I bet you will run again, too - but not too soon.  Give those hips a good long time to heal.

Good news. Pat, as usual has it right - get the hips fixed and then let them heal. Running will come when it's right, but it will come.

Woodstock - good job.  I agree that having one recovery, albeit a little more involved, is the way to go.  I can say that, based on my 2 separate events, 6 months apart.

Yes,I will be very patient.  I'll have all the time in the world to get back.  I'll be retired!  First order of business is the Waikiki Rough Water Swim in September, but Ihaven't seen my house in Shandaken, NY, town next to Woodstock, since the hurricane. So let's hope that fixing the house isn't the first order of business.

I admire your attitude and hope you will post the details here when you complete that first run, as you will.

I will let everyone know how this is going.  Right now I'm working 10 hour days at the World Trade Center and my hips are killing me.  One more week until Sept 11, then I can rest and things should feel a little better on their own.

Woodstock, I feel for you!  My left hip is killing me too, and I cannot wait until October!  Let us know if your house is OK!
