Title: Need resurfacing, interested in Dr. Marchand in RI
Post by: bjk123 on November 22, 2011, 06:13:01 PM
I am new to the site and am starting my research process before deciding on resurfacing or THR.  I have had life long issues wiht my hips that started at age 12 bith a bilater slipped epiphisys.  After the intial pinning, my left hip rejected and the surgery need to be repeated.  I have limited range of motion for the past 10 years and now have no cartiledge.  I am female and 38 years old.  I would like to lead an active life, but have always had limitations.  It has gotten so bad lately I can't hardly takes walks anymore and I wake up in pain almost every night, now my good leg is hurting too.  I am not a pill person but have been reduced to taking advil all the time.  Its time to do something about my pain and start living.  I am curious how your surgery with Dr. Marchand went, I am considering moving ahead and using him.  I really liked him and felt he was truly a good person and doctor, I like that he trained in NY and his Mentor is one of the best in the states.   Please let me know how you are feeling now and how your experience was at the hospital.

Welcome to the site bjk, sorry to hear of your hip pain. My experience with Dr Marchand and So Co Hospital has been nothing short of fantastic. I would not go anywhere else for any ortho procedure, total confidence in that team. So Co is a small community hospital with a world class ortho specialty. Many firsts in New England. It has been almost 2.5 years for me and I have absolutely no pain or ROM issues. I am a very active person, hike, cycle, weights, challenging work, climb ladders, etc.

Good luck in your search and future.

Hi

Welcome to Hip Talk.  I split your topic so you would have your own space to talk with others about your resurfacing questions.  You are very young and certainly would be a good candidate for resurfacing if your bone density and hip problems can be solved with a resurfacing.  You will keep a natural gait with resurfacing and not have any restrictions on your activities.  It  is most important to have a really experienced hip resurfacing surgeon do your surgery since you have a complicated hip problem.  I would also consider the top surgeons in NY like Dr. Su and Dr. Clarke, etc for a second opinion.  You want to make sure you have the best working with your hips.  You want your resurfacing to last a lifetime if possible and you don't want any complications from your previous probems.

Good Luck and stay in touch.
