I had bilatral hip resurfacing seven months ago with everything going really well. At six months I developed swelling ( a seroma) on the right hip scar and it has opened the scar itself. In he last month the swelling has increased tenfold, but my G P says to wait for it to healitself rathr than taking the fluid out with a needle because of the possibility of introducing infection. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it?
I have not, but was wondering if you have contacted your surgeon about this yet? I imagine that the HR surgeon would have greater familiarity with that than your GP.
Classique,
I agree with imgetinold. You need to go see your surgeon right away. Your GP is in over his head. Something needs to be done besides waiting for your scar to heal itself. There is no good reason for your scar to be swollen and opening up after six months. I urge you to act immediately on this.
Boomer
Gotta say I agree with Andy and Boomer, classique. It's the kind of thing a surgeon is going to know well, and a GP may not. Why not check, get it taken care of and go on?
Okay okay I hear you! My surgeon is the wondrous Dr de Smet and I will be sending him an email with graphic pics and details! Will let you know what he hs to say!
Well it would appear that this IS a reaction to undisolved stitches and the best thing to do is keep the scar/wound clean, covered and use an antibiotic cream and wait for it to resolve......Lo and Behold after some six weeks the scar is not continuing to spread. Now I am just hoping that the ache I feel in the joint and surrounding muscles and the increased numbness in the right foot are .......nothing. My, after a roblem free recovery of some six months, these glitches are annoying!
Good news and good luck
