hi folks.
going to have a revision next month. had a resurface in June 2008 but unfortunately for me it was an asr.although i am not in great pain my ion levels are high cr 359 co 423 and also fluid present on the joint.any body out there recovering from an asr revision.love to here how they got on.surgeon told me to be prepared for a longer rehab.any info greatly appreciated
regards sootie
Good luck, sootie... The way I've heard it, the levels go down drastically with time. Sorry about the revision, but with a good THR, I've heard the prospects are very good.
thanks hernanu i just hope the op goes well as the surgeon said to me he will not know how much damage there is untill he operates
You might dig around in the metals ion sub forum. With all the talk about ASR, I don't think I've heard anyone on here talk about getting a revision from a problemed ASR. There is one poster here that is cranking along on a snowboard with an ASR and no problems.
Sorry to hear about yours. Hopefully you can get all taken care in short order with limited problems.
thanks tin ill have a look on the other site sootie
sootie
I am sorry to hear about your problems with your ASR. I want to wish you good luck with your upcoming revision. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

thanks curt for the kind words of support.i will keep positive and hope that the rehab goes well regards sootie
well folks, its done just arrived home to day.at the moment i am in the old recliner catching up on some e-mails.the operation went well but to quote the surgeon was very surprised at the amount of muscle damage it wasn't the news i wanted to hear. originally when i went to see my surgeon i had very little pain although my bloods were high i too was taken aback at the news,
my rehab is going to take much longer so i will have to get my head around that and not try to push to hard and undo all the great work my surgeon had to do.although i did not get any feed back from others who had an asr revision i would like to tell anyone who is unsure about a revision please think again.i know from information on this site that plant inclination is vital on the wear and tear of the implant but my surgeon told me there was little or no damage done to the prothesis.
got to sign off now medicine cabinet is calling regards sootie
Thanks for checking in sootie, wish you the best and hope that after this (longer) rehab, all the issues are past and gone. Let us know how things are.
Sootie

Very good start, sootie. Are they giving you any home PT or is the recovery different?
hi hern.
same protocol as before.if i should need the services of pt ill see him but i have a good handle on what i have to do,
the only difference this time is,that it is a slower process, iam much more tentetive this time than last,i am very
concsious of not pushing too hard.ill have a better picture when i see both surgeon and physio in a month's time
regards sootie
The confidence will come, sootie - you've dealt with a lot, so it's understandable. Keep at your own pace, things will come out good.
Sootie,
What device is your revision? Were you a candidate for a mid-head revision? Did you get a large head MOM or another type of bearing surface?
I'm just curious......you don't have to provide that info if you don't want to.....
Hi Sootie, wanted to check in and cheer you on in this new recovery. Keep smiling and add that to your medicine cabinet! You'll do great.
Curt
thanks guys for your continued support,im increasing my exe's and walking each day but not over doing it although the cabin getting fever is getting to me a little,my wife took me out for a drive today called into the local inn on the way home 'i'd nearly forgotten what a nice pint of guinness taste like almost felt normal.
imgetinold the implant is an exeter hip it is true and trusted prosthesis my surgeon has been using it for many years with good success regards sootie
hi guys,
just a quick update on my progress since my last post.saw my surgeon for a check up lastweek after 7 weeks post op.said he was happy with progress considering the damage that was done. the main area of concern is the hip abductor muscle,he had to cut away a lot of damaged tissue around that area.worst case scenario could be a limp.
i am walking and exercising regularly ,quite a lot of soreness around joint and groin area but i am going thru the pain barrier to keep mobile in the hope i can get my life back to normal.i feel my life has been put on hold for the last number of years, not only have i had revision surgery on my left hip which lasted just over three years but i had my right one done Nov 2011. (sorry for the moan just feeling a bit vulnerable right now i am sure there are lots of people less fortunate than me)
so guys please keep me in your thoughts and prayers regards sootie
Sootie
Thanks for the update. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope each new report is a bit better than the last.
Pat
Hey sootie, happy to hear from you! Sounds like the prosthesis is taking well. The good thing about muscle is that it can regenerate. Take it slow and hopefully all of it comes back for you. I'm thinking and wishing good things for you.
thanks pat and hern
hopefully all will come good in the end sootie
The years you have put in must be very difficult, and my thoughts and prayers are with you, sootie.
Sootie,
I just wanted to weigh in and say I am sorry for what you have gone through and I wish you the best with your new hip and recovery.
Mike
Hey Sootie, groaning is definitely allowed, but keep as postive as you can and keep pressing for the best recovery you can achieve. You certainly deserve it, so we are all pulling hard for you. Hang in there.
Curt
THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT REGARDS SOOTIE
If I could put a little oil on your hip to help you ease through the pain barrier, I would. I'm doing what you're doing, pushing through pain while still trying not to overdo and inflame it!
How is your activity plan ratio to the 'right' amount of rest, (whatever that is), working out? To me, it seems like a tough tension between the two that I'm still in process of figuring out.
Good Sunday Night, Sookie.
2=4
hi two 4 one,
recovery on the right very good.no pain or even soreness even.after a workout the left side is an other kettle of fish,(revision side)finding it a bit difficult at the moment to get a happy medium on how far to push it last week went to the pool felt good did plenty of aqua exercises ,payed for it latter.so ill just have to gauge it better in the future regards sootie
