Hello, has anybody had success defraying the costs of overseas treatment? I'm looking into visiting the "spa" in Birmingham and need to get my ducks in a row. ;D
I assume i should start with a call to BCBS, is there a specific person to ask for ie. advocate, negotiator, arbitrator etc?
This seems like it should be a negotiable scenario, assuming that they would likely spend less money if I go overseas compared to what they would spend here in network.
What is the roadmap? Fill out paperwork and request benefits then appeal a denial if necessary?
thanks for any tidbits
I've heard of people talking their insurance company into paying a flat amount, it was something like the average cost of the surgery here in this country.... it was a while back, maybe someone will remember the post.

Anyone have any additional info on this? I self-paid in Birmingham and am now really eager to get after my BCBS HMO. Thanks. Jon.
i'm still working google at this point and found this.

also found that the hospital that Mr Mcminn operates out of is "approved"
My brother lives in NH and has BC/BS. He had a pleasant visit with Dr. Su here in NYC and is currently
recovering at my house, 2 weeks post op. In case you can't get BCBS to work in Birmingham.
