Title: Game Ready Ice Machine Post-Op
Post by: AdRoc on May 03, 2012, 06:29:50 PM
Anyone use the Game Ready Ice Machine after surgery?  I used it after my hip scope a few years ago, and thought it was wonderful!  Not sure if it's indicated for BHR post-op use though.

I am not sure about the compression part on the hip but as a ice machine it would work but is majorly pricey.  Thee donjoy iceman is available new for about $200 with a hip pad.  I picked one up on eBay for a lot less.  $2300 is pretty stiff!

My dr didn't prescribe it for my hip, but hubby had it for his knee surgery and I really wanted one, but couldn't afford it.  So I found that 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water in a double ziploc baggie worked great.  Stays flexible and is EXTRA COLD!  Still using the same 2 I started with and I'm at 15 wks.  Icing after exercise coule times a weeks still.

If your insurance will pick up the tab, mine did, for the game ready machine talk to your doctor about prescribing it for you.  It reall helped with pain and swelling. I used mine for two weeks.  Wish I could've kept it longer.  It's nice to be able to ice regularly after sugery, and you'll do it for weeks post op; especially if you are as active as I was post op.
