Title: Lump sensation when laying on side on hard surface
Post by: Dan L on May 10, 2012, 07:47:17 PM
Wonder if anyone else has experienced this, when laying on the floor for example, on the 7 month old BHR, feels like I am laying on a lump in the area of the incision, although there is no visible swelling at all and no abnormal healing issues at this point in the recovery.  The incision healed well, and is pretty smooth and regular.

Given the prosthesis is on the inside rather than he outside of the hip, it doesn't seem intuitive that this is simply the feeling of the implant components.  Does not hurt, but really feels unnatural.  The 11 week BHR side has some of this sensation, but not nearly to this degree, and given it is relatively new, seems more expected.

Interested to hear.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Dan,

It's either your car keys or your wallet.

Or deep scar tissue.  The implant is to far inside to feel it.  I have felt similar lumps and my PT used a roller that is called "The Stick" and at home I have the "Tiger Tail" that my wife uses on both the scar tissue and it works the IT band.

Another vote for deep scar tissue

I form a quorum (is that three?) and send this into committee  ::)

Scar tissue might be it ... Have you tried the roller on this lump?

The odd thing is, I can detect no lump when going over the area; the tissue seems of consistent density and depth from outside the incision towards the area where this sensation comes from, in the area of the greater trochanter, with no irregularity in soft tissue that I can feel.  I just feel the bone.  The incision healed very, very well.

Certainly would make sense if it was scar tissue, I've had it with other surgery, and could feel it for sure.  Perhaps the depth here is the difference.

Thanks for all the thoughts and feedback.
