Title: 2 weeks today post op!
Post by: Rach41 on May 29, 2012, 09:13:27 AM
Well today I am 2 weeks post op. All you who told me give it 2 weeks and you be a lot better were right. I am walking comfortably around the house with one crutch although I will take the two if I go out.

I am still sleeping on my back which is not great and last night in my sleep despite having the pillow between my legs I kept waking myself up because my right leg would be twitching as if I wanted to turn over!

I have bought some SBC arnica bath gel from QVC which everyone raves about, check out the reviews. I can't bathe yet as your wound has to be completely healed and I am also a bit nervous about getting into the bath, still you can also use it as a foot soak! Took a couple of steps without crutches the other day and showed my husband, felt a bit like a baby taking her first steps.

Well the arthritis pain has definitely gone and my wound/muscle pain is getting better. It makes you feel like you can do more than you should. I won't though as when I was in hospital a lady the week before i was admitted hoovered at 2 weeks post op and dislocated her hip and she had to have it done again!

I was also worried about my leg length a few days after surgery, well up to a week after but I think it has settled down now and I am putting it down to swelling and years of limping!

Thanks all feeling good today 😃

Rach,
Thanks for posting your recovery info! I don't have my first appt with Dr Weeden in Ft Worth until July, but won't be reticient to discuss a surgery date with the help I have received here. Any trepidation I may have felt is rapidly disinegrating as my hip pain becomes a regular companion. Information that you post as well as many others gives me a good general idea of what lies ahead and how to prepare. I am already rallying friends to help! I wish for you continued healing, its sounds like your recovery is on pace.  :)

And the recovery seems to accelerate from here, probably because you are constantly building on the previous day's progress. It was day 22 for me to sleep on my side, so you have that to look forward to pretty quickly.

Great to hear you're only using one crutch! 2 more weeks and  you'll really feel like you've conquered this arthritis!
Good luck
Joe

Rach thats great news! But if i were you id keep hold of the second crutch till you can walk with no limp as if you relearn to walk with a limp it can cause you issues later on. But great progress and keep it up! ;)

Hi Rachel

Glad to hear you are recovering. Maybe not apparent to you but sounds like real progress is being made from your earlier posts, hope you keep progressing.  Look forward to following in your footsteps.

Thanks all. Yes know what u mean about walking with limp if I am not tired etc I do walk with no limp on one crutch however if I am tired or done too much I have caught myself limping! Oops will go back to two crutches especially if tired.

Ka when is yr op with Woody? I think he is in some poor Country at the moment doing hip ops.  Don't worry about it like me. U be out of theatre before u know it. The first two weeks r hard though just to prepare u x

Congrats Rach!  it is almost impossible during those first few days to imagine you'll be better and how the time does pass quickly.  Now you know why those before you have so many encouraging words and great advice.  This place is the best and just keep trusting those who are ahead of us.  It does just  keep getting better!

Still waiting for a date, hope that I will know this week or next.  Would just like to have a date now to work towards so that I can get my head (and work) sorted.  Posts really help in preparing for this though.
