Hi,
"Smith & Nephew says its pulling an optional metal part used with its R3 hip replacement cup from the market, because it is dissatisfied with how the product performs clinically. Investors reacted harshly, driving the stock down by about 3% in early trading."
This component may have mostly been used with Stemmed Total Hip procedures.
Here is link to the article:

Wondering of anyone has info on this, I have an Email in to Dr. Su asking if this this component was used in BHR procedures.
Regards,
Dave
From what I've read, it was not part of the Birmingham system, only for the R3 THR system. The reason for the recall was that revisions reached 6.3% after four years.
Just goes to show how well designed the BHR is! I'm sure Mr Treacy actually told me the BHR cup was designed in his kitchen one weekend afternoon! ;D
