I am 3 weeks post op today and desperate to try a bath! I have been showering but want to try my new Arnica bath soak! My wound is now a thin red line with no scabs. Can I now bathe and if so any recommendations of getting in and out lol. My husband will be on hand to help but just want some advice thanks 😊
That's something you should check with your doctor on, but if the wound is closed, I think he'll give you the OK
They normally say that once the incision is fully healed your ok to bath but I'd check with your surgeon.

I was given a bath seat. It goes along the top of the bath and is really used to sit on whilst showering using a handheld shower. You sit on this and swivel both legs round together like getting into bed, making sure both legs are together and obeying all the restrictions. If you get the green light from the surgeon this could be quite useful as a starting point for lower and getting out of the bath using your arms. I have not tried it myself yet but maybe worth looking into.
How is it going at 3 weeks?
Hi its going great at 3 weeks post op. Feel much stronger today but can't get over how tired u get in the afternoon. Do my laying on the bed for hour to stretch out and I often nod off! Going to wait to have a bath as I have googled it and a lot of sites advise waiting for six weeks due to risk of dislocation! Gutted😒 will phone tomorrow and ask cant today as its Bank Holiday! I have noticed my knee on my good leg has started clicking everytime i straighten it so have started taking cod liver oil capsules. I think my knee is crying out for me to start bending the other one on stairs lol
Rach, you're going to get a lot of different clicks and twinges as your body realigns itself to its new health. Get in touch with your surgeon for anything significant, but this is more like your body finding it can move normally now.
That's a good point about the rest of your body getting used to some new motions, and I mean slight changes in motions. Those can still give you some clicks and maybe some discomfort. It should settle out after a few weeks though.
I think 3 weeks was about when I was allowed to take a bath. Agreed, check with doc, but closed up and no scabbiness is generally the rule of thumb.
I know I couldn't bathe until I lost the 90* restriction :( that was at 6wks. We have a deep tub/jacuzzi tub and there was no way I could NOT avoid bending more than 90. Hang in there, once you do get there it'll be AWESOME!!! remember the HR mantra: Patience
Ok thanks. Will wait after all its only another 3 weeks. Just hope my husband doesnt use all my arnica bath soak until then now that he has discovered it. Think I will hide it lol ::)
Just spoke to my Consultants office and guess what I can have a bath. Was told to be careful I dont slip (I have bought a bath mat) so looking forward to my soak later :D
That's great I thought that's what they would say. Always best to seek medical advice tho!
