Title: Supplementation
Post by: Dannywayoflife on June 28, 2012, 08:06:49 PM
I was just wondering what supplements any of you other hippies take regularly? I take the following and have been from early on in my recovery.
GABA,colostrum, calcium, collogen, glucosamine, chondroatine,Hyraluronic acid &growth matrix(all sorts of amino acids in a powder drink)
I think that these supplements are part of the reason my bone seems to have grown into my cup so fast. Mind that could just be speculation. But the GABA and growth matrix defiantly help me sleep better and recover faster. Ive been using them for years.

My chiropractor swears by something called Eskimo 3 suppliments. I haven't quite plucked up the courage to purchase them due to the hefty price tag, but I do take Glocosamine and Chondritin mix.

I take omega 3, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, collagen and calcium (because you told me to!) but all in tablet form when I remember to take it. I dont know whether any of it does any good though! It drives me up the wall taking it in tablets. Where do you get the powder drink from? Whats it called? I think drink form sounds so much easier.

Cod liver oil is the only one I take. I've tried Glucosamine and Chondroitin for long periods at some point but really did not feel it was doing any thing. Also in my desperation to help with OA I took Apple Cider Vinegar with honey (Honegar), no idea if it helps or not probably an old wives tale, I don't take it now though.

In addition to the usual suspects, I've taken fish oil capsules for years.

Just multivitamin and calcium; I'm allergic to shellfish so the Glucosamine and Chondroitin are no-no's.  Also take baby aspirin, but not related to hips.  When time and weather allows also take molsoncanadian, preferably in front of a campfire, but that does aggravate the squeaky BHR "work hip" sub model  :).

Hey Dan L!

Not much chance of a healthy campfire with the rain outside right now, but if you like your supplements on the dark side...you might try alaskanoatmealstout.  It seems to have enough substance to it to keep the implant well oiled!

Take care, Bruce      ~8^)

Darn you guys already made the beer joke.  I'm bad about suppliments, I stick to meat and beer.   I'm serious, I have to start eating more fruit and veges.    I think the only pill/suppliment sort of thing I've taken since my last acetomeniphen last September was my prophylactic antibiotic for dental cleaning, otherwise the horse pills of glucosamine have been sitting untouched for quite some time.

Animal Pak, changed my life.    https://www.svncanada.com/product/548/animal-pak   1 pack ever 48 hrs, or on hard workout days.

I also use Creatine, Protein powder, and started eating vegetables, as much as I can get down.   NO FRUIT JUICE,, EAT YOUR FRUIT.  Drink plenty of water.

Was talking with a vet today, my dog is old and going downhill :(

Somehow we got onto humans; vit D is essential for calcium uptake and to prevent MS, as nation, we Brits aren't getting enough vitamin D from being outside, less people working on the farm and more in offices and sunscreen blocks vitamin d creation apparently. This is why MS is on the rise. So, just saying..... The advice was....Take vitamin D too to help absorb the calcium and avoid nasty conditions.... We've all had enough of those!

Plus Vit D is good for your mood, especially when you live farther from the equator, like many here do.

When I fractured I asked McMinn what I should take to help my bones heal and he said eat red Meat.
He did not recommend supplements of any kind to me. So I eat red meat. Its a real bind having to force down those juicey steaks and succulent lamb chops but I force myself. I did notice that sunshine also seems to help.

I've been using steak, fish and lobster... strictly for medicinal purposes, of course.

Although Mr McMinn didn't recommend Lobster I will take that recomendation very seriousley and go buy myself a nice juicy local Lobster today. My local fishmonger catches his own lobsters and picks Samphire super healthy meal. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
