Title: Has anyone else experienced this when sneezing?
Post by: Spanielsal on July 19, 2012, 05:50:38 PM
This is just me wondering, ever since I had my HR, if I sneeze, cough hard or I'm sick I have to lift my leg up otherwise I get a sharp pain down the front of my leg towards the inside. Just curious but has anyone else had this? I think I look pretty funny when I start repeatedly sneezing as I look like im pumping them out.

When I say pain, it's pretty uncomfortable but short lived

Sounds like a soft tissue issue. Maybe a tight Psoas muscle, but just guessing.

Well I haven't had a HR but I do know that my Psoas muscle is very tight and I have to kind of brace myself every time I sneeze, cough etc otherwise I get a stabbing pain in my groin.

I get it too.  It is only in my 6 months post op hip. the 16 months one doesn't feel a thing.  I hate sneezing.

I had it too, mostly on my right, my left was somehow not a real issue.

Did you get rid of it with stretching, Hern? If so can you recommend some exercises? I've asked the physio here pre op but they looked at me a bit blankly, this time, perhaps they didn't realise I was talking about the first hip! Cheers, Sal

I think it was stretching and just time. I can't isolate anything I did, but did a good amount of PT and stretching when it was proper.

Had my left resurfacing in October of 2010 and still get that quick pain when I sneeze and it's gone immediately after. Not as bad as it was a few months after surgery. For me it took a long time for the psoas tendon to ease up. I found that just thirty minutes on a treadmill every other day after work made a world of difference.

for me, sneezing was painful BEFORE surgery!  I can remember sneezing and having my hip shoot with pain... if the sneeze was big enough and it jostled my hip... OUCH!

i never had a pain exactly like you described but I did have some weird sensations during recovery.  I had a strange one down the front of my knee right after surgery.  depending how I moved my operated leg.. if I extended it or bent it the wrong way I got this weird painful senstaion that felt like a shot of electricity right down my knee cap. right down the center of my knee... almost like a funny bone in your arm getting hit.. but on my knee.... it eventually went away....  most of those funky sensation go away gradually.. just be patient.

I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. I have to allmost sit down when sneezing.
I can run 50 miles with no pain but I get to sneezing and its all over.
