Are you bilateral?  I ask because I was told at my pre-surgery class that only bilateral patients or patients with special circumstances could get their insurance to pay for rehab hospital after surgery.  I was bilateral and I think staying in the hospital was the best thing that could have happened.  I was 3 days on the surgical floor and 6 more days on the rehab floor.  I had nurses and aids to take care of me and I had PT three times a day for an hour.  They worked me hard; had me walking up and down the stairs with one cane, got me on the exercise bike, made me stretch and walk at the bars with no other aids and even had me kicking a soccer ball with no hands holding on on my eighth day, and I had the medication I needed to do the work.  Every surgery is different and so is every recovery.  For me it couldn't have worked out better.  I hope it works out the same for you.

Good Luck!

Hi Blitz, I know you had your first HR in 2009, where in NY are you going to rehab?
