Title: post op 4 days heel pain
Post by: hoyt66 on September 15, 2012, 07:48:56 AM
Things are going well. Had pt yesterday. Feeling better by the hour!!! ( thank God) Anyway, I woke up last night at about midnight (laying on my back) and it felt like someone had a couple of flames on my heels. Right where they made contact with my bed. I put a

pillow under my calves to get the heel off the bed and the pain went away. I feel better this morning. Better each morning. Has anyone else felt this?? Thanks

Sounds like the heels are just sore from the continual contact with the bed.
I got it a bit in hospital and they gave me a gel cushion to put my heel on. It did the job.

I absolutely had that problem, but it is easily solved by putting a pillow under your calves so that your heels don't touch the bed. Normally we move around enough at night that spot pressure is not a problem, but no movement from being stuck on our backs creates constant pressure points that could be a problem if the pressure is not relieved; like bed sores.

It's not something I suffered from personally, though I was constantly asked by the nurses if my heels and bottom were OK.

But yeah, I agree with all of the above. Popping a pillow underneath will put a stop to it.

Yep... heels hurt like hell the first day at home until I wised up and did the pillow trick. Also, I got my first good night's sleep, when I used a few pillows under my knees as well.
