Title: fatigue
Post by: lyn on September 22, 2012, 10:51:21 PM
Im 24 days post op. I feel tired after a days activity. Im walking approx 1/2 to 3/4 miles not all at once. Doing pt excersizes 2 times daily, and its not a lot , just isometrics.Maybe going out to Costco, things like that. Which really isn't much. Im sleeping at least 7/ 8 hrs a night. Why am I fatigued? Is it  because Im still recovering from surgery. What do you think? Lyn

Your body is still recovering massively! I don't even think the general anaesthetic will have totally cleared your system yet(although I'm no doc!) you have undergone massive surgery you will feel tired for some time yet I suspect.

I'm nearly 7 weeks out and I'm still napping in the afternoon, falling asleep in chairs and getting a good 7 hours a night. Nothing to worry over  :)

Lyn;

It takes months for all of the fatigue to go away, after a full days work, I was taking naps 3 - 4 months later, after each BHR.  The surgical disruption to your body is huge and the recovery takes time.

Thanks for the input. I was planning on taking at least 8 weeks off from work. I may have to take longer. Its gonna kill me when I go back. I work 10hr shifts mostly on my feet. Oh well, I'll just focus on being upright and hopefully being able to walk straight. Thanks, lynn

Hey Lyn, with regards to returning to work, I'm thankful that my department are offering me a gradual return to work in that I can start off at maybe 3 mornings a week and increase it over the course of a month until i'm back to full time. There's no way in Hell I could go straight back into 8hr shifts.

Lyn, your body is still healing and will for quite some time. You need rest -your body will demand it. I slept so after week 4.  Recovery sleep made Ambien look like a Flintsone vitamin.  I took many naps during the day.  Life will get busy again way too soon. Let your body heal.  I think the mind is also exhausted from all the worry. I know mine was.  It needed a break more than my body.  It was so hard to focus on work after the surgery.  Priorities changed a little too.  Get all the rest you need and when you get that; get some more.

I'm always fatigued after going to Costco.

Keep in mind, your activity level is just increasing and increasing, on top of your body repairing itself, it needs rest.  It's early on in the recovery process.  I'm just reiterating what everyone else said.
