Hi All,
I had right BHR @ 12 weeks ago, all is good. I am scheduled for left BHR in about 9 weeks. Any recommendations for 2nd BHR pre-op preparation?
Thanks John
Hey John, I had somewhat the same. One HR and the last three months later. The preparation probably should be about the same as last for you.
Prepare your living area:
- remove obstacles to crutches
- make sure that you set up your refrigerator with the things you use the most close to the edges and on the top shelves
- Set up any chargers, remotes, wallets, etc on a safe flat area that's reachable (I used the kitchen counter)
- Get entertainment for the duration; I loaded up on blurays, had a kindle for easy reading, etc.
- Easy on easy off clothes, shoes.
- I found a sock putter onner / offer indispensable, especially for putting on TEDS socks - I live alone, so needed to handle this by myself.
- An easily reachable shelf, etc, where you can put medications.
- An area that is flat and safe where you can go walking.
- I bought a huge container for water. I hydrated like a fiend, used this religiously.
- A good network of friends, family to call. Not necessarily to visit you, but personal contact even through texts is necessary.
- Clear out any rugs that may trip you. My PT took away bathroom rugs for the duration.
- A good method of icing the hip
- A good method of icing the hip (it is important, as you know)
No real surprises here, I'm sure. Most of all, get psyched about it and know that after this you'll be done and every gain you make is permanent.
I'd just like to add that you have 12 weeks to strenghten you upper body and your other leg. Make use of your time, get to the gym and work, work, work.
Good luck with your surgery.
