Title: 1 month from surgery with Dr. Rector in Boulder
Post by: bethbrownell on May 06, 2008, 12:15:47 PM
Hi,  I've learned so much from this site.  I poured through all the reports on recoveries before my surgery.  I am amazed how quickly
I've recovered.  All that reading didn't prepare me for the daily improvements.  I had surgery on April 4th at Boulder Community Hospital in Colorado with Dr. Rector.  I'm from New Mexico but no one here has the expeience I wanted.  Dr. Rector called me 3 times to talk to
me about the surgery.  He and his super nurse Michelle were thorough and professional and I really appreciate the personal attention
I received through out this process.
I was in the hospital for 3 days/2 nights.  The experience in the hospital was excellent.  Even the food was good!  I used a walker for
the first week, 1 crutch the second week, a cane the third and fourth week.  I'm almost steady enough to go without the cane now.
I've also been driving since week 3.  I am so pleased that the rest of my body quit hurting.  My neck, shoulders, knees, ankles and even toes were developing various problems.  I now feel so much more balanced and all that compensating is gone.  The rest of my body can
now relax!!
Dr. Rector used glue for the 6-7 inch opening.  Now I have some tenderness but very little bruising or swelling.  I've been getting physical
therapy once a week.  He also fixed me up with a company that offers a machine that compresses and ices the leg.  I used the machine for about 2 weeks and found it very helpful (it is called Game Ready).  I urge you to research doctors and travel if necessary.  Beth B

Hi Beth

Congratulations on your new hip.

I am glad you are having a quick recovery.  Many people do.

If you give us some updates, I will post your story on the main website when I get time.

Meanwhile, Good Luck and keep in touch.
