Hi all,
I have been trying to find more info on an experienced Dr. that can do a hip
resurface in Japan. So far the only info I have found are some references to a
Dr. Sugano by Dr.Bose. I've tried searching for more info on Dr. Sugano but have come up with
limited results...
Can anyone here steer me in the right direction? Has anyone here had a resurface
in Japan? Any info will be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance ,
Joe
Hi Joe,
I don't have any info, but wanted to welcome you to the site. The important thing is to make sure that whoever does your procedure is very experienced. Success rates are much higher if the surgeon has done more than 200 and does them frequently.
A good number of our hippys travel to have the procedure done. The recuperation is something that can be guided and treated by local doctors after coming home.
Some people here have gone to Dr. Bose, since he is one of the pre-eminent HR surgeons and very experienced. His fee is also very manageable, from what people have written.
In any case, when you talk to Dr. Sugano's office or himself, here is a list of questions Pat has compiled that many here have used to select a surgeon.

Again, the more procedures done, the more dedicated to the procedure and the more frequent the number of procedures per week, the better. Mine had about 800 under his belt when he did my first.
Good luck, and I hope someone knows Dr. Sugano.
Hi hernanu,
Thanks for the reply. I have been doing a lot of research lately on hip resurfacing and am grateful for this sit. It has A LOT of great info.
I'll ask my surgeon (when I find him) those questions on the list for sure! And then some.
I'd like to have the surgery in Japan, as I have National Health Care coverage here and can have the surgery done much reasonably than in another country. Although I would prefer to have it done by one of the best in the world, of course!
Sincerely,
Joe
It would look like Dr Sugano is pretty experienced. This reference from Smith & Nepthew (BHR) references a paper he was co-author on about HR in 2003.
(I am not allowed to post external links???!)
try googling: smith & nephew "A review of the performance of the BIRMINGHAM HIP"

It looks like he is very experienced. Good luck.
