I just visited my doc yesterday and unfortunately the best option for me is to have Total hip replacement. I agree with my doc and here is the reason. I have LCP (Leggâ€"Calvéâ€"Perthes) on my right hip and the pain is getting to the point that I need replacement. Unfortunately the head and neck of the femur is so messed up that resurfacing would not yield good results and that the large ball type total hip replacement would be the best option.
I was kind of bummed because the same doc resurfaced did my L-hip with a BHR about 3yrs ago, and I am completely satisfied. I wanted the same on the other side, but I may end up with a resurfacing on one side, and a total on the other. I feel very comfortable with my doc and trust his judgment. He mentioned that, as with BHR; the total hip with the larger ball can have all restrictions lifted after 1 yr. I am very active and appreciated that input.
Is there anyone out there that had their perthes hip fixed? Was it a total replacement? Would like to hear from you.
Thanks
I had LCP as a child and had a double osteotomy. My hips hung on until I was 45 then I had to have my right done BHR my left is on its way but hanging in there for another couple of years I hope before I need a BHR on the left.
Both my femoral heads regrew to a pretty decent shape but gave up early.
