hey all,
I am 7 weeks out from a right BHR with Dr. Callander. I have gotten back in the water to do some body surfing and bodyboarding, and now I am itching to get back on my board. Of course I will start in very mellow waves with my longboard, and wait until I get clearance from the Doc.
So I have some questions for my fellow watermen....
How long till you got back to surfing?
How did you know you were ready?
What specific exercises or PT did you do to get prepared?
How long till you pop-up was better than it was pre-op?
thanks.

First, congrats...!
Second, I think I started again between six and eight months. When I felt that the stability and strength were there, I jumped back in. I also was careful about size of the surf for the first several months.
I had to quit cold turkey when the OA became so bad, so maybe the answer to the pop-up question is form no pop-up to an OK one now. Still really working on speed and hip flexibility.
Re: strengthening: swim, walk, foam roller and reps with elastic band...
I'm now at 19 months and just spent a really good week surfing and swimming on Nantucket. Great to get one's life back...!
