Title: Going back to Belgium for a second shot at HR
Post by: Tim Bratten on November 25, 2013, 06:40:08 PM
Hi hippies
As many of you know, I had a botched resurfacing done by an incompetent hack and then a revision to THR by De Smet. I have to say that De Smet's THR system is working great and I continue having improvements in strength and flexibility a year and nine monthe after my revision.

Meanwhile, I've had bone on bone in my other hip for some time without too much pain and OK functionality. However, my operated hip is now performing significantly better than my unoperated hip and I feel certain it is time to do the surgery. The day is set for Febuary 4th and feel confident that De Smet will do me right with his HR system. I was also happy to see that he has dumped the Holiday Inn and picked up a nicer (but more expensive) hotel much closer to downtown with better facilities and a swimming pool.

Wish me luck! I'm looking forward to this like another vacation.
Tim

Good Luck Tim.  I am sure things will go well for you.  Sounds good you will have a hotel with a pool.  When I was at the Holiday Inn in 2006, they pool was closed down so I never got the water therapy.  It did not make any difference since I had a fast and easy recovery, but I know the water therapy is really good.

Keep us updated when you can.

Best of luck Tim.

Always a good sign returning to the same surgeon.

Am I right in assuming that your post-op incision site dressings are water proof and you use the pool under supervision for basic exercises within days after surgery?

Great Luck Tim!

As you know you've chosen well for surgeon for the second HR, I think it will keep up with that excellent THR he gave you.

Good decision, Tim-he will see you right.
Here's hoping you get back to your climbing as quickly next time around, I look forward to reading about your progress, all the best.

I had a good time over there in early September, under the circumstances! In my case, I didn't use the pool, it was all recovery exercises, walk, rest and a few beers here and there... Good luck!
