Title: Corin Cormet pulls out of USA
Post by: HowieF-16 on January 12, 2014, 03:36:01 PM
Dr. Raterman did a right hip resurfacing on me last week and when we met in his office the day before surgery, he informed me that he will be using the BHR device because Corin pulled out of the US market as of Dec 31st due to lack of sales. Anyone else hear about this? I had RBHR on January 8th and doing great!

I understand that the Corin Cormet resurfacing implant has been failing at unacceptably high levels in the UK (I believe NICE require to see revision rates at less tha 1 percent a year).  I was advised by Leigh Day  Solicitors in May 2013 that in theory the implant was still on the market, but in reality not being used anymore.  If Corin officially withdrew the implant it may have opened the floodgate for claims?
Leigh Day have been acting on behalf of a number of patients with a view to making a claim but I have no further up to date information.
I understand they were hoping to take a claim forward on the basis that the implant had only been tested on a continuous walking cycle on a simulator.
