Today is my 8 year anniversary of my BHR by Dr. De Smet of Belgium. It is still doing well and I never had any problems with my hip resurfacing. I was very lucky to have a quick and easy recovery. I was on one crutch for 3 weeks and sight seeing in Belgium 5 days post op. Same as the other 8 patients I was with. We had a great time in Belgium with each other crutching around the Holiday Inn and Ghent.
I am now 69, so I hope my BHR will stay with me a long, long time. No one knows, but it has served me well so far.
I still believe in hip resurfacing and encourage anyone with a bad hip - male, female, small, large, young or old - to get an opinion or two from the very most experienced surgeons to find out if they are a candidate. Different surgeons have different protocols. I still believe that the very experienced hip resurfacing surgeons have the best overall outcome - based on national registries, personal stories and surgeon's personal series.

This is great news, Pat, and comforting to hear. Although I am experiencing a rather difficult situation at the moment, my hip/hips feel fine and I am in no pain!
As our population continues to age and we remain healthy and active, research needs to perfect this wonderful technology even further.
Best wishes and continued success!
Hippy anniversary Pat

Congratulations, Pat! So glad to hear all has gone well for you. I am coming up on my 5th anniversary and also turning 65 in April. I have done very well also with my resurfacing (on right hip). Playing tennis, ZUMBA, yoga and lots of walking and hiking.
I had mentioned this surgery to several people lately, and they have been concerned about the metal build up. I just had my blood taken a couple months ago at Dr. Su's office. I had gone there because I had some pain in the hip, but it was just bursitis, which was quickly taken care of with a shot and has been fine. The blood results apparently came back fine, and I have also asked for the office to send me the results. Just curious to see everything. Have you seen much discussion about this recently, or know of anyone who had the metal problem? I am going to look at the website to see, but wanted to first congratulate you. Let me know if you have heard about any issues with metal and what the symptoms are.
Thanks, Pat!
Congratulations Pat and thanks for all that you do to help inform other on hip resurfacing.
