Title: The road to round 2
Post by: Dannywayoflife on December 08, 2014, 10:23:05 AM
I have today decided to bring forward my bilat operation as with the weather we've been having here my hip has been really bad and I feel 71 not 31!

I spoke to Mr Treacy's NHS secretary today and I am seeing him on the 24th of December (Xmas eve!) to do an X-ray and paperwork to be listed for my right bhr installing. I was told surgery would likely be in February :) that's perfect :)

Absolutely - get it done. I had my second dealt with really quickly. Second time round, you know what the problem is and what to do about it. Why wait and suffer?

Thanks guys. I'm really looking forward to being able to tie my own shoe laces again!

Today I was trying to do some strengthening work on the hip area and I can't even do a clam with my right hip the rom is so bad! My lower back is hurting all the time at the moment I'm assuming that's due to my altered gait or something related to the hip.

Can't wait for the second shark bite!

Only thing that is annoying me is that I've the last 4 months I've just started to get back on the road training wise and now I'll be off for a considerable time again. Mind I'm thinking about lifting in the gym post op. Obviously nothing on my legs etc but don't see how shoulders, back, arms and chest can hurt a new bhr!? I won't anchor my legs into a lat pull though as that might cause traction on my hip?

I had no problems with it Danny, but I worked on my rehab for the first two months or so.

Once I got out of that, I started strictly with upper body (bench press, so long as no pushing off), etc.

Mr Treacy will raise your spirits when you see him on the 24th, and February will come rapidly.

The guy is amazing working on Christmas eve - good on him.

Just had my consultation at the royal orthopeadic and it looks like I am booked for my bilat on the 12th of February. Could have had earlier but that was what suited. Mr Treacy's registrar was shocked by my ROM and had to help me get my socks back on :( looking forward to all that being over with!!

Good luck with the surgery. I'll be through it a couple of weeks ahead of you, I'm having bilateral Jan 27th in Ottawa.

I've been working out at the gym (avoiding load bearing exercises on my hips) and doing yoga and it's really helped. My hip joints still ache all the time, particularly the right one, but I can now get my socks on without struggling and my lower back has been much better. When I started a couple of months ago, I could barely get my socks on. It took some real technique to do it with straining my back further.

Some of the yoga moves I can't do so the instructor gives me modified positions. I can't wait until rehab when I can start increasing my ROM.

Jeez there is no chance of me putting my own socks on this side of my bilat! Glad some yoga has helped you though! :)

Roll on the 12th of feb! Can't wait to be on the mend.

Good stuff Danny, you know the drill. I can tell you though that it is a great feeling having both done when you need them.

Feb 12th will come soon enough, the recuperation and that ROM will be back. Best of luck...

I personally don't do New Years resolutions but I like to write down specific aims for the coming year. One of mine ( a tiny one in the grand scheme really) is to run 3 park run 5K's before my bilat in February. I shuffled my way around the first today in 37:20 today. I can't move fast enough to get my heart and lungs working :( it was sheer agony my bad hip started hurting on the first hill then my bhr started hurting as I was compensating for the bad leg then my back started hurting! Lol still I manned up and got around. 2 more to go ;) can't wait to be on the mend and I'll be able to lol forward to a 2016 where I have ZERO INJURIES!!!
