Title: Type of Incision/Procedure best for Resurfacing where some AVN
Post by: nwugrad on July 18, 2008, 03:13:42 PM
I have some AVN, apparently not too severe.  I have heard that some type of procedure/incision are better where AVN is present.  Does anyone know about the alternatives and which are best for someone with AVN?

Dr. Bose is the world expert on resurfacing AVN cases and he uses the posterior approach and preserves the neck capsule.  Make sure you pick a doctor that preserves the neck capsule. From what I understand it is also important for the joint space to have narrowed first prior to getting resurfaced.  Do you know how your joint space is and how much cartilage you have left in your hip with AVN?
