ANTHONY Mundine has flown to England for emergency hip surgery in a last ditch bid to save his boxing career and fight old rival Danny Green.

Mundine arrived in the UK on Wednesday night for an appointment with Birmingham-based Dr Derek McMinn, a world leader in hip resurfacing, an alternative to a hip replacement.

"I've been fighting on one leg for six or seven years," aaid Mundine...

...Mundine says he is paying $30,000 for the surgery and spending another $10,000 on airfares and accommodation..

...Mundine will be in hospital for five days after the operation and hopes to be back home in three weeks to prepare for a fight with Green...

Going to try and follow this story as I am interested to see how quickly he gets back in the ring.


If you are not familiar with HR and read that article you would think it is minor surgery ad he will be back on his feet in a few weeks. We all know its not that simple.


I am 4 months post op now and dont think I would want to box 10 rounds, conveniently ignoring the fact I couldn't box 10 rounds anyway :-)

Agreed, and he is 40, which in and of itself is problematic for a professional athlete. But, he is an athlete, and it's his job to rehab, unlike the rest of us. Other professional athletes who have had resurfacing have come back quickly, for example the pitcher Colby Lewis. So, perhaps he can do it.
