Title: Easy way to get into bed
Post by: brichards on February 25, 2016, 10:13:26 AM
Im 4 weeks post op in Seattle,Dr Pritchett and his staff did an awesome job on my right hip.
I am 4 weeks post surgery with Dr Pritchett in Seattle,he and his entire staff were excellent!!

Ive had extremely little discomfort, and yesterday slowly walked 1.5 miles/2.4 K...Feeling great today:)
I did rent an adjustable hospital bed,$250 USD  a month, well worth it for comfort as you can adjust it to your needs.

Before I left the hospital the Physical Therapy people strapped a thick belt around my chest for the PT people to hold onto in case I needed support as I learned to walk, handle stairs,etc...And they said I can take it home .
So I did just that:)
I would place my injured leg foot into the  small belt loop and hold onto the other end of the belt, sit ,then lay onto my bed as I used my arms to gently guide and lift my leg gently into and then out of bed at the same time...And I would use this same approach to adjust my leg while in bed.I would use the "grabber" thing, drop the loop around my foot then use my arms to adjust carefully my leg, worked great.

MUCH easier than without as for the first week my leg had little strength.I also used the "loop" to gently do the post surgery exercises,as even though one cannot move the leg as directed in some exercises under its own strength,at least I could go through the range of motion which is important.

Thanks for sharing brichards. I found similar assistance with the leg lifter that Dr Gross gives you (you can buy one on amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/DMI-Lifter-Strap-Inches-Beige/dp/B0009STNT2). It's very helpful to be able to manipulate your leg independently and under control to minimize pain.
