Not sure where to put this. There is a section on post op recovery, thread on what to ask the surgeon pre op & getting ready in your home but I'm having a trickier time finding info on how to get your body ready for the surgery.
I thought maybe we can throw suggestions together to help others, that feel at a loss of what to do prior to the big day. Health, food, exercise, activities... Things you can substitute if you can't do a certain thing.
If there already is a section for this, can someone point me to it? :)
My pre-op plan was
1) continue to eat healthy
2) get down to ideal weight
3) strengthen muscles affected by surgery
4) continue to exercise And stretch
5) hydrate 2 days before
And of course get household items as needed.
Raised toilet
Shower hand rails/ suction cup ones
Put food where you can reach it.
Prepare meals
Etc
When is the big day?

Good list Badbone, thanks.
I don't have a date yet, the wait time here in Ottawa is 6 to 8 months. They call you 6 weeks prior to surgery, which is when you find out the date. :)
When my son went for a surgery just a week ago, I was reading through the booklet they gave him at his pre op appointment & there was a section on what to stop taking a week or so prior to surgery. I wonder if it applies for every similar types of surgery where you don't want to encourage bleeding. I'll look it out & post it.
