Title: Two years post op and pain with running
Post by: livendive on May 26, 2017, 08:40:06 PM
So I've been trying to get into better shape this year, for a variety of reasons, including vanity, performance, and overall health benefits. I'm down nearly 25 lbs, which is about half of my goal, and have re-introduced running to my regimen over the last week with somewhat disappointing results.  A quarter to a half mile into each run, my left hip gets quite sore, especially across the font (flexors?) but also a deeper ache that radiates out through my buttock.  This is the hip that doesn't look perfectly aligned on x-ray, and the one which had some iliopsoas problems 6-8 weeks post op.  Anyone else on here had any similar trouble with running in particular? Normally I would take NSAIDs and motor on, but it appears I've done too much of that in my life, as a couple months ago I starting having an unpleasant reaction to both ibuprofen and naproxen.  I kind of recall some discussion on specialized stretches some time ago, and I'm wondering what approaches people have found success with.

To add some detail that might prompt a thought in someone, my gluteus medius is much more developed on the left side than the right.  That is, it's obvious on palpation and in the mirror that the muscle that vertically transects the outside of the hip is larger on one side.  I assume that means it's compensating for something else that's deficient, or perhaps I slacked somewhere in my rehab and unintentionally took an "easy out" for regaining ROM.
