This is my one year follow up post. Things are going really well, I've done several half century bike rides, rowed 4-6 times a week with the competitive program, and even did my first sprint race in a double! I did a bunch of strength training during the Summer, including deadlifts, squats, overhead press, etc. But I had to lay off because I couldn't fit in cycling, rowing, and strength training and actually hold down a job. Now that the season is over I'll be going back to working with my trainer will see what kind of strength gains I can get over Winter. I'd say I'm 90% of the way there. Lingering issues include:
- My external rotation on the right (operated) hip is MUCH better, but it's still not the same as the left.
- My hip flexor tendons (ilio-psoas most likely) are still touchy. They get very annoyed if I do too planks, and especially planks with one leg.
- My right glute is still struggling to come back online. It's much better, but it's an uphill battle.
Had a few times where my proprioception really felt off, almost like my leg wasn't connected. A couple of Feldenkrais sessions really helped this, or if my gait seemed off.
Today I had the first of three ART (Active Release Therapy) sessions, so please I can report back on whether that was helpful as well.
Hi Taj
Glad you are progressing. Thank You for sharing your updates. I know people are interested in reading personal stories.
I wish you the best in the coming new year!
Pat
Great news! I had my one year x-ray and sent the images to de Smet, he said my hip looks perfect AND my other hip is totally normal!
He also suggested I wait until two years to have the blood work done.
Off to the gym to deadlift now!
Good News TAJ
Keep up the good work. I wish you the very best!
