Title: Has anyone had a surgical element left in by accident?
Post by: Creakyhips on August 08, 2008, 12:52:45 PM
Hi, I am curious about this as I had a BHR carried out three weeks ago in the UK, and it was discovered at the post-op X-ray the following day that the consultant/team has failed to remove the alignment pin/guide wire.

The result of this was me having to remain in bed over the weekend (it was discovered on a Friday) and to have additional surgery on the following Monday, am I the lucky one? A detailed account of my operation and procedure can be seen at www.creakyhips.com (http://www.creakyhips.com)  and theres a great picture of my X-ray, if your interested!

Hi James

I wanted to welcome you to Hip Talk even though we have talked via email.

I will be interested to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks for posting.  I will be posting your story on the main website shortly.

I wish you the very best.

Pat

Hi James,

I know of one patient that this also happened to.  I have her contact info at home and will look it up tonight and email her to see if she can respond to you.  Unfortunately she also ended up with a revision surgery to a THR about a year later, it had nothing to do with leaving the pin in her.  They found out immediately after her surgery so they literally put her right back into surgery the same day.   I will send her an email tonight and see if she can respond to you.
