Title: 6 year THR
Post by: Mike D on August 12, 2018, 05:21:15 PM
Hi Hippy,
6 years today for me on my Oxinium/Poly
THR from Ronan Treacy.
I couldn't have HR due to a Slipped Femoral Epiphysis as a teenager which left me with a slight twist on the head.
I was reduced to a life of severe arthritic pain and taking strong painkillers every day like many here but the last 6 years have been incredible.
Zero pain, back playing football and motorcycling as well as long walks- all unthinkable before surgery.
HR is the way to go but if, like me, you're not a candidate- don't despair.
Large ball THR is a very good alternative.
I'm always lurking on here - it's a fantastic site and is offering the same help and advice since I joined. Good work Pat!

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear your THR is working well, my ceramic/ceramic Zimmer THR is 15 months old and I am running, biking and climbing just about as well as I should be able to at my age. My BHR is coming up to 4 years in November but the femoral head broke off during my second operation and resulted in the THR.
They have different characteristics but both work very well, the ceramic does not squeak but the metal one does still clunk occasionally! My right leg is fractionally longer though because the THR procedure is not so precise as the BHR.

Completely agree with your comments about THR and this site - here's to many more anniversaries!

Hi Mike

Glad all is well.

A Ronan Treacy large ball THR is cool.
