Six months ago today I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr Peter Brooks of the Cleveland Clinic. Couldn't be happier with my recovery so far. I have been out of joint pain since the surgery. Plenty of soft tissue pain early in my recovery, but I would say that since the 2nd month or so that's largely been gone too. For 12-18 months prior to my surgery the pain in my hip had gotten to the point that I was using my other leg to do much of the work, and as a result my left leg became very atrophied, lost quite a bit of my muscle tone. I would say after 6 months that I regained about 80% of my strength and muscle tone back. Most of the time I don't think about my operated hip, as it just feels like a normal hip. Dr Brooks has a very strict recovery process. I'm permitted to do some light to moderate stretching PT, but no high impact activities like running or jumping, and no strength building exercises for the first year. The more my leg/hip has recovered, the harder that has been to adhere to but I'm determined to follow doctor's orders for the next 6 months. I'm enjoying the little victories of everyday pain-free life like tying my shoe without pain, doing light yard work without feeling the pain for 2-3 days afterwards, sleeping through the night without pain, etc.
This site has been a wonderful resource throughout this process for me. Thanks so much to Pat for all she does.
Congratulations! It sounds like you off on a great start to life with a pain free hip. Isn't it wonderful!
