Title: Metal Implants and Strabismus / Double vision?? Link?
Post by: 23109VC on September 22, 2018, 04:46:15 PM
has anyone here read or heard anything that might suggest any kind of link between metal ions and double vision?

I developed double vision / strabismus a few years after my hip implant was done.  I have NO evidence to believe that my hip had anything to do it, and I'm not suggesting it did.

I love my hip implant - it gave me my life back!  Before surgery, I was a 38 year old guy who could not outrun his toddler son.. I was that messed up.  Fast forward to now - and I did a century bike ride last year, and I've gone snowboarding the last several years and kept up with my 16 year old son.  My active life has transformed..and I am forever grateful to Dr. Gross and my implant for giving me my life back and ending years of chronic pain.

so i'm not asking this question so stir up debate or to bash on MoM implants.  I recently saw an article online and there was a suggestion that there could be a link between certain autoimmune disorders and metal in the body.  The article focused mostly on vaccines and aluminum... but it got me thinkign if even the small amount of metal ions we have coudl have some similar effect?

My metal levels were normal last time they were checked.... so while I don't think there is a link , I'm just curious...

anyone else here experience double vision sometime after getting a hip implant?  mine is called binocular... if I close one eye - the other one sees fine. it's when they are both open - one eye turns in a tad too much, like a lazy eye, and my brain can't compensate and I see double.  I have a smallamount of prism in my eyeglasses and it corrects itself 99% of the time.  If I get really tired, or have a cou;le glasses of wine - it gets more noticeable...but most of the time, my glasses correct it.  in some photos of myself i can see that my left eye appears slightly turne din - nothing drastic, you probalby wouldn't even notice it - it's that subtle.. but I can tell.

Just wondering.  anyone else have a similar issue let me know.

good luck to everyone!  My hip is now been going strong for almost 8 years...

Looked around, didn't see anything on Strabismus and metal ions, especially when they are at normal levels.

Doesn't look like Strabismus is an autoimmune disease, more a neurological one. It seems like it's a genetic predisposition or expression. There are versions of it that express at childhood and some later.

According to this article https://www.researchgate.net/publication/229075212_Differences_in_Gene_Expression_between_Strabismic_and_Normal_Human_Extraocular_Muscles (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/229075212_Differences_in_Gene_Expression_between_Strabismic_and_Normal_Human_Extraocular_Muscles), it is expressed due to interference with the normal functioning of the protein cycle and its little factories, the Mitochondria.

Good question.... I'm glad you're happy with the implant, I'm pretty thrilled with mine.
