Title: H1 all ceramic left hip 19 month postop update ... and race report :-)
Post by: fastboy64 on May 08, 2019, 12:07:41 PM
I've just got back from the 2019 Pontevedra ITU Aquathlon World Championship race for  male 55-59 Age Group.

What an amazing experience - loved it!

I placed 36/40 in my age group race - 1K open water swim then transition into 5K run.

Swim was cold (14 degrees) and up to halfway against a strong current - I placed 39/40 - it was tough as I'm not a strong swimmer.

Run was hot (23 degrees, no shade) but a nice 2 lap flat course - I placed 17/40 and would have run through more places had I not lost so much on the swim.

My hip performed perfectly and allowed me to deliver my very best race.

Looking forward to improving my swim and continuing to train consistently, strongly but sensibly for the run - hopefully sub 20 next year.

David

Nice job David,

Work on that swimming, pick up a copy of Total Immersion swimming by Terry Laughlin.  It is a good read and teaches you how to swim more efficiently. Lots of things you can work on yourself. Youtube videos too.  I'm waiting to get my hips done so I'm living vicarreously through all of these success stories. Fortunately I started  swimming 7 years ago, I hated swimming when I started. Now I'm a pretty good swimmer, and I'm so glad that I kept with it.  Now swimming is all I've got until I can get my hips to work again. Just keep swimming!
