Title: 6 Months After Hip Resurfacing!
Post by: Atlanta on May 29, 2019, 10:40:22 AM
On November 28, 2018, Dr. Gross performed hip resurfacing on my right hip. Today marks exactly 6 months! I have taken things easy, refrained from high impact exercises and feel great! The supine leg raises ended up causing back pain. So, I stopped doing them. A friend told me about the hip exercises at CrossoverSymmetry.com. I ordered the Hip Halo and have been doing the activation exercises and the first 3 strength exercises since about the 3 month mark and have noticed a wonderful increase in hip strength! I do those exercises 3x/wk, elliptical for 30 minutes 2x/wk, and walk 5k 1x/wk.

Dr. Gross says I can go back to doing anything I want after the 6 months mark. Still, he cautions to build up to the intensity over time, since the healing process takes 1 year. Does anyone have additional advice that could save me a lot of potential problems?

Congratulations Atlanta-

Sounds like you are pursuing a wise course of recovery- steady, gentle progression and taking time to heal.  My experience avoiding impact follows yours.  Even at 8&10 months I find the "younger" hip still reacts to running on the treadmill so I modulate that activity accordingly.  I am going to look up the Halo machine you referenced, sounds interesting.  My thought is approaching recovery cautiously and consistently will reap the strongest rewards and wish you the best enjoying your new horizons.
