Title: 6 and 4 year Hip Resurfacing Anniversery
Post by: MAH Wyo on October 03, 2020, 08:55:26 AM
I have had both hips resurfaced by Dr Schmalzreid.  One 6 years ago, the second 4 years ago.  I cannot say enough what a great decision and experience this has been.  I am 63 years old, 6’1” 195lbs and keep active.  I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis that bone on bone.  Since the procedures, I have been able to do whatever activities I desire without discomfort or fear (note....be careful with some yoga positions).  The procedures were without complications.  And in fact, the recovery after the second procedure must have been some type of record.  The swelling was half of the first, and was up and walking with just a cane within 14 days.  Was swinging a golf club in 7 weeks.

To anyone who is contemplating this procedure, I encourage you to go forward.  Ensure you have a competent surgeon (I was lucky to have one of the best), prepare/plan for your recovery, and enjoy a pain free future.  I also recommend getting the procedure early.  You’ll recover more quickly, and enjoy more pain free years.  Once you are diagnosed with arthritis, you might as well plan on getting this fixed.  The condition won’t improve.  And if you wait, you might wait until it is too late to get this wonderful procedure.

Congrats, MAH Wyo!

I concur completely, and want to second is thoughts.  I had my first hip done 8 1/2 years ago, and it was literally life-restoring.  Anyone who's hips are shot from osteoarthritis knows what the pain is like, how impossible it can be to sleep, sit, walk.  Having a resurfacing restores all the function you lost, with a very small risk of complication (as long as you go to a competent surgeon.  Dr. Schalzreid is one of the best in the world, as is Dr. Thomas Gross who did mine.

I actually had my second hip done 9 days ago (10-28-2020), and am looking foward to returning - again - to my active life  I know with 100% confidence that I will.
