Title: Questions about resurfacing surgery
Post by: Minniemuis on January 12, 2022, 01:51:37 AM
Hello,

I have a question regarding the resurfacing surgery, whichever device you are getting.

What happens to all the ligaments around the hip? The ligaments are needed to keep your hip in place. Is anything permanently removed during surgery? If so, does this compromise the stabilitity of the hip and do you therefore compensate with muscle or al I seeing this all wrong?

Can anyone clarify?

Nothing permanently removed as I recall. The soft tissue was stretched and traumatized, to be sure. An exterior rotator was detached and then re attached. I had pretty strict restrictions the first six weeks in part so my hip would not dislocate.

The ligaments and tendons are reattached.
The neck capsule is preserved by some Drs. which improves stability.
The labrum is removed which compromises cushioning and stability.

If you have the stomach for ( I do not ) Dr. Gross at Midlands Ortho has a youtube of the whole procedure.

I'm 10 weeks post op and while the hip joint itself is sold and pain free, the surrounding tissue is where I'm focused.

I'm optimistic I'll make a 100% recovery but I'ts still a work in progress.
