Title: day #1 - thoughts
Post by: YetiKing on February 16, 2022, 10:05:14 PM
rolled into dr gross's surgery center at 6a and after some instructions and prep was in to surgery by 7:40a.  at least that is what my wife told me.  anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist started asking me some questions and did something and, boom, lights out - didn't even see it coming.  woke up in recovery feeling fine.  couldn't pee so had to get some help via catheter - not terrible.  all went went after that and was on my way.  crutch practice and off to hotel.

whatever accolades you hear and read about dr gross and his team, please believe them and accept them as likely understated.  my experience was nothing short of amazing.  every person shows a level of empathy, compassion, thoughtfulness and expertise that is unparalleled.  i tried to thank every single person and know i missed some. they excel at what they do.

feeling great right now but know sleep #1 could be challenging. fingers crossed.  long drive home tomorrow - open to ideas on what to get my wife for being my support crew, caretaker, pill counter, crutch helper, driver...  the list is endless.  she is my rock and makes these turns around the sun complete joy

will provide updates for anyone interested and happy to answer any questions.  everyone's contributions in these forums, as i did my endless research, made my confidence grow and helped with this decision.  sincere thanks to everyone out there.

Great to hear that everything went well... I knew it would and agree with the Gross team praises. You might want to prepare several gifts for your wife because there is more work ahead. I just completed my 6 week evaluation work and looking forward to phase 2. After 6 weeks I need to get some exercise. Congrats on your surgery. I enjoyed the drug they gave me prior to being knocked out. I was so relaxed.  :)

Yeti, you're experience mirrored my to a 'T'  including the catheter, and if by thanking you mean telling each and every nurse they were pretty (it was the drugs) it was a 100% match   ;)

It gets better each day post op.  At first the gains were really big for me, walking with crutch, cane/walker went by quickly, the soreness lasts for a while.  In all honesty, I think the worst part for me was the swelling, it seemed mine hung around longer than I would have liked.  Nothing that an ice machine can't help with though.

After a couple weeks it was about little gains and trying to follow all the instructions I was given.

Congratulations!  I hope everything goes well from here on out.
